Ashley Matthews

I am a multi-lingual probate and criminal law paralegal working in the North Myrtle Beach area in Horry County South Carolina. I was born and raised in Sumter, South Carolina as a child of a military family. I moved to Horry County in 2012 to pursue personal and career aspirations.

I have earned an Associates degree in Applied Science with a focus in Paralegal Studies from
Horry-Georgetown Technical College. In my time at HGTC, my classes have focused on various types of law, including wills, trusts and probate, real estate and property law, family law, and civil litigation. The skills that were a developmental focus in our program were, the preparation, execution and follow up of client interviews, drafting various legal documents, filling out court mandated forms the navigation of local, state and federal websites, and proper legal research techniques. In addition to learning how to communicate and research effectively. I learned how to navigate Westlaw, Soft Pro, and am a recipient of a Certificate of Completion from NSLT (National Society of Legal Technology), which focused on core programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as various case management applications.

In addition, I have also earned a bachelor’s degree from Coastal Carolina University majoring in Languages and Intercultural Studies, in which I focused on French and language studies, and minored in communication. I have proficiency in French and Spanish and continue to reinforce my language studies with the goal of becoming fluent within the next year. While enrolled at Coastal Carolina University, I had the opportunity to study and engage in Intercultural and inclusion initiatives, group and organizational dynamics, as well as study various aspects of media and how it influences culture. One of the highlights of my experience was getting to meet French Vietnamese author Kim Thuy when she visited with our class while we studied her works.

In addition to my Education and legal experience, I have fifteen (15) years of operational management experience in high-end multi-million dollar retail companies, which is outlined in my resume. During that time, I developed skills in strong verbal communication, as I often led teams of 50 people or more.
